What's the best way to paint these two chimneys? Without a scaffold. I was going to bolt a ladder and rachet it to gutter then put roofing ladder on tiles to get to back of chimney.

They are effectively on a first floor.

Is the scaffolding cost worth more than your roof and life?

Ring around and get some quotes or even easier pay someone to do it.

You cant fix anything to a gutter.
I would cut a U shaped sheet of ply [cut tight to chimney width] with ribs of timber secured to it, slip it round the back of the chimney and it will give non slip access to rear and sides, the front can be done with extended pole and roller from top of ladder.
Rubber stapled to underside would also help reduce any movement.

Drill a hole into wall and I have this expanding device which is really strong. Will rachet ladder to that. It won't move. Then I thought push a roofing ladder up and hook over ridge. Tie bottom to already secured ladder and maybe to chimney then climb up to do back. I heard u can put something underneath to help prevent tile breakage.
