I propose changing my existing garage consumer unit (fuselinks) to a modern 3-way unit with RCD and MCBs. While I am technically competent to do this, I don't know if I need Local Authority approval. Can someone please advise.

Replacing consumer units is notifiable so you will need to let your BCO know about the work and also pay the fee.

Also, it is Part P, not Part 2. There used to be 2 parts within Part P and they were P1 + P2 but P2 was scrapped.

3 ways doesn't sound very big.

What about the required 10% spare ways (i.e. one spare way in your case) to facilitate future additions as required by BS7671?

In a garage?? Most garage CU's are only 2-way.
Really? My shed CU is 4 way. My uncle has a 10 way unit in his garage (ok its a bloody big garage!)
