Germany, apparently, have the correct relationship in their factories between unions and management. Unfortunately in this country the 'class system' (made up by the so-called 'upper classes') is rife. Workers desperate for increases in pay which are declined while all the time the new cars/office furniture/jolly's out are streaming in.
The viscious circle then begins, workers not putting in 100% because of the general mood, payrises refused because of suffering production.
Factory floor are told to work harder/smarter/faster while all the while **** poor management is over-looked.

Rant over.

And all the while p**s-poor senior management is ever more highly rewarded.

The shop-floor people are exhorted as you say, to try and mask decades of under-investment by the owners in modern plant and equipment etc.

A lot of the "wildcat" strikes in the car industry in the 70s were deliberately engineered by the management to cause stoppages which they wouldn't have to pay for, whenever they could see ones coming which were due to their p**s-poor inventory, supply chain and logistics management which they would have to pay for.

Hmmmm... that's quite a stretch, even for a conspiracy theory, isn't it?

I can confirm that in Germany "unions" and employers work together to get the best result for the company, its employees and the customers. Instead of discussions based on " We Want " it was almost always based on "how can we co-operate" ( based on my 18 months employment in Dusseldorf )

Many strikes in the UK were invoked by union leaders to justify having a union to lead and union subscriptions to fund the leaders life style.
