In an advert "Time Served Electrician", how long would you have had to been an electrician to be time served or is it to do with qualifications?, or does not mean anything theses days? :?:

You have to ask yourself what an electrician is. I would say that it's someone who can:

. Work skillfully, independently, pragmatically, and safely;
. Keep abreast of changes in legislation and working practices;
. Keep a cool head, and cope with the unexpected;
. Keep aware of new and improved products and techniques;
. If self-employed, create, develop and run a business that makes a sustainable profit;
. Develop sufficient time-management skills to be calm and reliable at all times;
. Build a rapport with suppliers and continuously manage stock;
. And, for those who work with the general public, avoid insanity;

.... to name but many.

How long does is take for most of those to become second-nature, and for a business to become firmly established? It's finger in the air stuff, and everyone is different, but certainly it's a number of years.

I always thought time served refers to someone who has undertaken and completed an apprenticeship. :confused:

To me "Time Served" means - "has completed an apprenticeship", so that would be 4 years...just because someone claims to be time served does not mean that they are experienced or competent though!!

In my past life in which I was time served, there were many lads finishing their apprenticeships who still needed almost constant supervision.
