Patio slabs? Refurb...

Hi all,

Sorry I am completely new to anything garden related so apologies in advance.

I have a small patio area in the garden which is looking a little unloved. Today I gave it a preliminary scrub using washing powder and water and it hasn't come out too bad.

At some stage I need to fill in the bits between the paving slabs as some of them look like they need filling in.

I have bought the stuff that you brush in - which I am hoping is idiot proof.

My question is what tools do I need? I'm not sure where to even start looking!

I am guessing I need to clean out the area - what do I use for this? also some of the bits between have weeds. I try to pull these out but is there something more effective as sometimes I snap them and unable to pull out root so it just grows again?

Is there anything else I need to apply the stuff apart from a broom??

I don't think you have the right stuff. What you need is mortar which is sand and cement mixed with water. The tools you need is a pointing trowel and jointing iron.

its just the stuff that you brush inbetween the slabs and it solidifies - especially for patio slabs.

it's really the tools to clean between the slabs that i was after really.

nothing fancy. A small chisel and old screw driver are good options. A leaf blowert is also very good for the remenants.

Clean out as much as possible, the pointing needs to be at least 25mm deep to have any chance of lasting.

To be perfectly honest the vast majority of the 1 part brush in products are rubbish but you will get a few years out of it hopefully.
