Hi all

I want to replace my old patio, well concrete / patio. Is it possible to lay the new patio on top of concrete or do I have to break it up first - massive job to break up the concrete and I want to raise the patio a little, concrete base would be perfect.

dont see why not, concrete is not going anywhere, and if you did smash up your concrete you could always use it for hardcore..........to build a concrete base

but when laying slabs make sure they run away from the house

Nice one, with some patio's you just lay them on a bed of sand but if I did that then there is no drainage so would I just cement them down?

yes.

2 reasons, sand will get washed away under slabs on concrete, makes them at the right angle (away from house for water run off)

Ok being thick here I assume I'd mix it up, what mix do you suggest?

i suggest "tommy's special mixture"

3 2 1

3 sharp, 2 soft, 1 cement

providing the concrete is sound, then yes no reason why not. I always use a 321 mix as well. Its worth giving the concrete a good clean off first and then a wash of a neat cement and water slurry to help the mix take

I was being serious.
tommy is Tommy walsh, the builder on what was ground force
