A few VW specialists seem to think 507.00 (5w30 grade) is the best option for VW PD engines. They reckon better wear protection for the PD cams than the 5w40 PD can provide.
Here's a graph which I take no credit for -
Its seems rather strange that VW 507.00 oil doesn't have PD printed on the oil tub as it would save a lot of confusion. Apparently 507.00 supersedes and exceeds 505.01 (5w40).
I called the local AndrewPage to get prices for Mann oil/fuel filters. They had neither in stock but had Bosch brand, total less than £20.
Turns out though that Bosch filters are manufactured by a 3rd party for Bosch so could be made anywhere!
