Peace has broken out.

Article from the other thread where several posters cannot comment. It sounds like Trump is wanting to abandon a two state solution.

Trump’s comments appear to break with decades of US foreign policy, which has long emphasized a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.

There has long been a fear in the region that Israel wants to push Palestinians out of Gaza into neighboring countries – a premise Israel rejects but one supported by far-right factions of its governing coalition.

Not exactly the ponderings of a super-brain. IMHO.

He seems more interested in a real estate deal than a peace deal.

“So I’d rather get involved with some of the Arab nations and build housing at a different location where they can maybe live in peace for a change.”

During his presidential campaign, Mr Trump had spoken of the potential for a future Gaza, saying the coastal strip from which Israel disengaged in 2005 could be “better than Monaco”.

Thanks for posting away from the Zion thread.

Interesting, the Jerusalem post have reported the same story with no differences to the above. I don't see it as definitive that Trump wants to abandon a two state solution, he's desperate for Saudi to normalise relations with Israel and working toward a two state solution is a pre requisite for Saudi.

Jordan already have 2 million registered Palestinian refugees, they don't want more, not least because the ones they already have attempted to overthrow the Jordanian Govt in an uprising in 1970.

Trump's right in that Gaza is a mess and quite crowded (some of the usual suspects will intervene to say it's the most densely populated place on earth, it's not, doesn't even make it into the top 10) so rebuilding will be difficult. The population in 20 years has gone from 800,000 to 2.2 million

I can see some mileage in increasing the size of Gaza spreading it further into the Sinai, building in the new extension first then depopulating areas of Gaza to allow rebuilding of Old Gaza, Makes sense logistically.
Egypt won't be keen though and will still naturally want a fortified border to prevent 'spillage' into Sinai, it took years for Egypt to clear Sinai of Isis, and only managed that with the help of Israel, the last thing they want or need is Hamas or the Muslim Brotherhood setting up camps all over Sinai, bad for tourism.

Whatever happens it will need to be a huge international effort and needs to involve Saudi, Egypt, Jordan and Qatar as well as the US. A palestinian Government needs to be established in Gaza which ain't going to be easy as Hamas still clearly have a strong presence there.

One thing's for sure, if it isn't sorted in the medium to short term, it will just carry on in a never ending cycle of attack and counter attack.

Trump and Saudi could be a formidable force shaping the future of the Middle East, watch this space.

That sounds a lot more like it. Maybe this is just Trump having a stream of consciousness. I am sure I read somewhere last week an idea that Saudi might have a role running Gaza. They might be able to get the locals onside and turn against Hamas once and for all.

Just to prove Odds is, as usual, telling porkies.
Even if I were allowed to post on that cesspit of a thread, I'd give it a miss on holocaust memorial day.

Filly finds a thread that talks about the terrible atrocities committed by the state of Israel very upsetting…..of course he would…..Filly wants this forum to be a platform for Israel, propaganda where he can push his weaponisation of anti semitism unchecked

Not once has Frilly ever shown any sympathy or humanity towards the innocent Palestinians suffering in Gaza.

Frilly says: “I must admit I don’t like them very much”

One would think on such a poignant day Frilly would have some compassion towards innocent Palestinians

which ain't going to be easy as Hamas still clearly have a strong presence there.
Israel’s endless bombing of Gaza will no doubt radicalise an even more extreme Hamas.

The way go get rid of Hamas is to treat Palestinians fairly.

Too afeared to face the truth, eh...you've gone too far down the Fascist rabbit hole to back out now, i understand, but it won't change the facts of Israeli treatment of Palestinians: or Lebanese, of whom a score were killed at the weekend for simply trying to return to their homes.
