My brains gone dead, please remind me

If I buy someting for £100 & add VAT @ 10% it is £110.

To get back to the original £100 what is the calculation.

Not the answer (as we know that is £100) what is the calculation.

ok I think its
%/(new)-(old)/new
so how do you transpose the formula to get
old =

wELL IF YOU HAVE A CALCULATOR ITS DIVIDE BY 1.10 TO TAKE YOU BACK TO THE ORIGINAL FIGURE

IN THE UK vat IS 1.175

If VAT was 10% (add a tenth)
net is £10
vat is £1
Gross is £11
then to get from gross to net you divide by 1.1

As UK VAT is 17.5%,
net is £100
VAT is £17.50
Gross is £117.50

So to go from gross to net you divide by 1.175

e,g, £117.50 divided by 1.175 is £100

£235 divided by 1.175 is £200

£3149.42 divided by 1.175 is £2680.36

If you've added 10% on to a figure, your new number is 110 % of the old number.

To get back, divide by 110, to tell you what 1% would have been. Then multiply by 100 to tell you what the original 100% number was. (or just divide by 1.1 if you want to miss out the interim steps)

No looking back !

'A' originally bought a house for £10,000

Instructs 'B' to sell for him.

'A' requires 20% profit on original £10k.

'B' informs 'A' that he will require to make 10% on the sale, 'A' agrees.

For how much must 'B' sell the house to achieve all requirements and how much does a successful 'B' pocket?

:D :D

Do you wink, too? I do it every day without fail. I like winking, especially in front of young females.

I wink in front of my Mother, I used to wink in front of my Gran, but she's dead now so she will never see me wink again.

Even my cat used to wink, but he's dead now as well.

Actually, no!

That post (highly out of character, m'lud!) was written under the affluence of a large Talisker. Sorry.
