Perjury

They'll appeal to the European Courts of Human Rights and complain that they could never have a fair trial, then the ECHR will uphold the appeal and they'll be set free by a panel of judges who have F All to do with the UK.
(just wait and see)

Have you read all the thread so far, ellal, the lyrics of "windmills in your mind" come to my mind:
Like the circles that you find

So anyone who is a witness/alibi for a defendant who is convicted should automatically be prosecuted for perjury?

In this country people who testify on oath usually swear on the bible. In that case, if this is a christian country, surely there is a belief in a higher court which will deal with them if they lie. So why do people who've been required to swear an oath on the bible get done for perjury?

I thought there were other options and other non-religous oaths avalable now.

Charming response.

I inferred that your comment had already been discussed on about page 1.
I've only just realised that you were the one that made that original comment.

It was the required response...

Maybe you ought to be asking why the original question remained unanswered!

By handing down a Draconian sentence to show the world it is making an example of them is playing into the hands of the the thugs lawyers. It just makes it much easier to get an appeal and to get the appeal upheld. It's all a circus anyway to show that the racist Met has changed and that society is doing something about it. The trouble is, that if it had been a black-on-black crime they wouldn't have received anywhere near that sentence. But murder is murder - it isn't worse or less when it is racially motivated. I'd love to be part of the team that go to the appeal court. It will be a walk in the park. Not only that, due to the ridiculously high black population in prison, they'll have to keep them segregated like Huntley is, playing X-box and watching vids all day. It'll cost we tax payers a fortune.

Is it Draconian? I thought a basic 12-year minimum for a murder, with a bit added on for it being a racist murder, and a bit added on for being part of a gang who went armed with (at least one) knife, looking for trouble, seemed quite moderate.

What would you consider a "lenient" sentence for murder?
