Hello there, we have a Rural cottage in the country, have doubled its size through rear extensions with full planning permision 12 years ago. What permitted extensions can we do now after said rear extension. Have we lost all permitted rights now?

PD is split into several different classes so is very rare for LPA’s to withdraw “all” your PD rights.

Your previous Planning approval may have made reference to certain withdrawal or limitations of your PD rights, so check that first.

As you have already extended to the rear, there is a very strong possibility you would not be able to do anything else to the rear via PD. There may well be potential to extend to the sides of the ‘original’ and not ‘existing’ dwelling.

Check the PD rules and limitations here...
