Hi

I am looking to put a door at the bottom of my stairs into my garage.

I have read up on the regs etc and all is fine but the requirement for the door swing to be at least 400mm from the bottom stair is tight.

If I hang the door so it swings into the garage does that mean the 400mm rule doesn't apply?

Thanks in advance

The 400mm rule only applies if the door swings across the landing. So hanging it the other way would be ok.

Thanks John.

Wasn't sure if hanging it to swing into the garage was ok as it's a fire door.

Cheers

Make's no difference. As long as the door doesn't swing across the 400mm zone it's fine.

Thanks John, much appreciated.

It's a new build I want to put it in and the builder has told me they can't do it as the door cannot swing inwards to the garage . They seem to say this is NHBC rules but I'm sure building control is fine so I may check with NHBC myself.

Thanks again.

Needs to be a fire-rated door , but I expect you already know that. Building control will advise.
