Hi,
can anyone help with this?
My wife accidently filled her diesel car with petrol, there was some diesel in it at the time. The mistake was realised before the car was started so the fuel was drained into cannisters, so we now have 50 litres of fuel (45 litres of petrol and 5 litres of diesel)

My question is: would it be okay to put this mixture in my petrol car?

Thanks in advance.

It might be a bit smoky but it'll run on it. You could dilute it even more by adding it a gallon or so at time when you fill up, just to be on the safe side.

But then it might take a long time to use up 50 litres of petrol in a lawn mower.

The risk you take in using the fuel mixture in a petrol car is possibly damaging the catalytic converter. Since this costs more than 50 litres of petrol to replace, you might think the risk isn't worth taking.

Just to add to the problem, you're not allowed to store more than 20 litres of petrol in containers (see here).

If you give it to me I'll test it for you and let you know the result.
