Peugeot 205 rev counter problem

Hi folks,

The car is a 1991 Peugeot 205 1.6 Automatic. 41,000 miles.

The problem - The rev counter needle vibrates quite harshly and loudly. Hit the cluster and it stops, only to start again a few seconds later. Does it at any revs.

Any ideas how to fix it, as it's driving me mad!

I was hoping it could be a cable or loose wire or something?
