Got an 07 plate, 1.6 litre unleaded.

Intermittently it brings up antipollution fault and the engine light comes on. At the same time the mpg continuously reads 999 and there is a noticeable lack of power with a little more engine noise and the cooling fan comes on, even when the engine has only been on a short while and cold. I suspect all this is related.

The coolant is running low, I've topped up with water. This may not be related to the above, as there has been something dripping from between the drivers door and the front wheel.

Ideas?

First fault sounds like the DPF is regenerating but petrol cars don't have one?
Second , maybe your expansion tank is leaking, that must be in the general area.

Please top up the coolant, and monitor the level for the next few days - it must remain stable.....any issues here may indicate a cylinder head gasket problem.
Maybe the drip underneath the car is from the air con system, which is normal?
I think you'll need to get the cars fault codes read - which may indicate a catalytic converter issue or maybe a lambda sensor problem.

The drip could possibly be from a leaky water pump bearing seal.
