I know i need new rear brake discs and with the help of a haynes am comfortable changing them but every time i look at buying them there are types with and without bearings. How do i tell which ones i need?
According to the GSF catalogue there is only one type of rear disc but on ebay there are what look like different ones, it may be that that the bearing is an optional extra. I would suggest that you take a wheel off and compare the appearance of yours with the pics on ebay.
If haynes says you need to remove the centre hub nut, then get the ones with bearings otherwise you'll have to press the bearing out of the old discs and put them in the new ones, which for the price of them isn't worth it.
