hi all hoping someone can help me out here....
my problem is my RIGHT HAND ENGINE MOUNT (the belt side) has come away from the engine block i can see that at least one of the bolts holding mount to block has becom untheaded i dont know if its due to a broken mount...(which aint so bad as i have a spare)...or if the threads have been stripped bear somehow in the block if thats the case will it be repairable would it be possible to re-thread the block.

any help greatly appreciated

Difficult to say why you have this problem, but sounds as if fixing bolts through mount to the engine came loose? The mount itself does not break in my experience.Suggest support the engine and remove the mount. If the threads on the engine are damaged due to loose bolts allowing movement, they can be heli-coiled.This involves tapping the holes out slightly larger and screwing in a replacement thread to standard size. Many small engineering companies will come to your home to do it for you.Or,do you know a friendly mechanic who can borrow the kit?

thanks yes2mud...its less of a worry on my mind now. never heard of heli-coiling before. would i be right in thinking this is a specialist job or could a novice complete this task. is it an expensive job.

Hi Topcat, you need to remove the mount to confirm that the threads are damaged first. If that is the case then heli-coiling is your best option.Drilling out the mount and oversized bolts probably not a good idea.
Yes,you could do heli-coiling yourself,it basically involves tapping out the damaged thread and winding in a new one. BUT,heli-coil kits are quite expensive and not really worth buying your own for one job.
Usually, most garages and engineering shops keep kits to do the common sizes,ie,6mm,8mm,10mm and 12mm.They charge the time to retap the threads and for each new heli-coil.Not much stripping required for your job.
If we were closer,I could do it for you.Best to just ask around locally.

If you're a novice i would seek proffesional help from a local mechanic/engineering Co. I cant see this costing a great deal. I've had engine mount rubbers deteriorate and split away from the metal backing of the engine mount causing a lot of movement. To be honest, there are so many different types out there i have no idea what yours even looks like

Just had a thought Topcat. On some of the Peugeot-Citroen engines, the bit on the engine which I think has damaged threads is bolted on itself so is not part of the engine. If this is the case, you could unbolt it and take it to whoever you find to heli-coil it.

thankyou again yes2mud...you have been a great help as you say i need to confirm exactly what the problem is first but at least i know that if the threads have been stripped bear there is a solution. i will let you know how i get on.

just read your next post that'll be handy if that's the case will keep you informed........TOPCAT

thanks also to millerman

hi just to update.... back on the road again after paying out £150.00 to have the engine lifted and drilled apparently the bolts through the mount to the block had actually snapped. am told its quite common on peugeot`s. curious to no if anyone else has had this problem ???. still im up and running again just like to say thanks to all who helped me out with this problem .

Glad its sorted now, so, i take it the thread of the bolt had snapped off inside the block and required drilling out?

yes that`s right thread of the bolt snapped off inside the block. be curious to no what caused it.

I had the same problem on a Citroen ZX 1.9 D, the top engine mounting is only fastened with 8mm setscrews into helicoiled threaded holes. If the bolts are not torqued properly the you can expect trouble.
