Phone Access Via Internet

When landline is switched off you will be giving basic internet router. Your current phone will plug in the back of that.
If you are classed as vulnerable then you will be given a battery backup so landline works when there is a power cut.

At the moment everyone should be looking to unplug landlines and plug in the internet router if they have one.
Should just work.

I can see a few problems arising from this decision but I think it's unavoidable. Just not worth the money keeping landlines running in the current market.

Me! I had/have 4x wireless phones, which will not work if power is last, but I keep an emergency phone, plugged into a live socket, behind the kitchen drawers, with the phone ready to use, in that top drawer - when we were on copper. Rather pointless now, because if we lose power, the router goes off, so we would have no line anyway.
My home system has 4 handsets too (inc the master) and I keep one fixed wired phone in the front room just feet away from the BT incomer.
I'll have to buy myself a small non smart phone if the fibre goes down on power failure. I need the 999 system always available with a disabled wife.

My wireless Sky (NOW TV) router does not have a phone type socket, only four for internet cables and of course WiFi. NOW is the best ISP I've had so far, unlike the other crap providers I have ditched, Shell to name just one.

I hope that works when the power is down and either the power to your local cell goes down too or all channels are taken with others using their mobiles.

Who has a fixed rotary or pushbutton phone these days?
Me but then I like the old and trustworthy equipment

When you order the fibre, you simply advise them that you have a disabled wife, and need the phone to continue to work through a power cut - they are supposed to provide a battery backup for the router, so the line remains in operation for a reasonable length of time. The mobile service is much less reliable - here, aside from the signal being weak, just a few weeks ago, it went off for the entire day - better, might be two mobiles, on different cells.

Lots of fibre deals around to be had, I was persuaded to change, with 4x my copper speed, and for lower monthly costs. I got 150Mbps up/down, for £23.99, plus £3 per month for the phone, with free w/e evening calls, but expensive at other times.
