Picking up ISS broadcasts and making a diy antenna

I would like to make a simple receiving antenna for picking up the ISS I have a length of plastic pipe and welding rods I just need info on getting the lengths the right size the the pitch between the wedding

Heres a link relating to amateur radio and the iss and did read somewhere people have used those cheap jap handhelds like Baofeng etc, seems they use 2m for amateur contact but would not know about other transmissions also may be worth reading in the link about Doppler shift.
