Hi all,

Looked at a leak today, on 22mm running in a basement (in a pub). The pipe runs along the ceiling (which is actually the ply subfloor for the room above). It runs through several notched joists and is tight u against the ply.

The leak is of course on the top of the pipe. Taking the flooring up above isn't an option.

Looking for top tips to cut out and repair a pipe that runs flush to a hard surface, which is being held in place by notched joists!

Theres a small chance, with a lot of knuckle bashing, I could get a hacksaw up there to cut it...

Cheers!

how much room have u got betwwen the joists
and you will need spring bender and blow torch hope the floor is not flammable

400mm between joists, but there's RSJs running perpendicularly to the wooden joists. It's pretty f'in tight!

I have a torch and a 22mm spring....

Angle grinder to cut either side of pinhole, then two slip couplings, piece of
gas fire closure plate slid between pipe and timber, flame on low, fire extinguisher at the ready just in case of trouble, piece of ****.

You could try a bolt on clamp ?? as a repair , generally if the pipe has started to pin hole it will keep re occuring ??

Reciprocating saw (i think that is how its spelt) metal cutting blade, maybe a bit easier to get in than angle grinder, not sure, as was said bit of tin or something betwwen pipe and joist to slips, lovely job, just 1 question if the pipes are in notched joists and they are touching floor from room above, i take it they were fitted from above not below, im sure they will be but just checking.
