Is this what I need for auto vents in the loft on my HW and do they leak/drip at all that might require some for of tray siliconed around the pipes?

they can leak but cant all water components........putting a teay around is a bit exreme and if they did leak,it would take the tray to overflow before you even knew so what exactly have you achieved by putting the tray there in the first place?
