Hi every body

I have a 1960s detached house. It has an extension to one side, and the floor is concrete aprox 4"below the house floor. In this extension is a shower room with a toilet & macerator. On lifting the ceramic tiles i have found a channel containing the drainage pipes covered with sand. Can anybody tell me if this is ok or do i have to arange new pipe work.any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. It works ok but my concern is what to do if it gets blocked, after laying a new floor, as there are no openings for roding. And the stack is on the opposite side of the house
