Not sure this is really an electrical problem but perhaps someone could suggest a remedy please?

We have two PIR controlled lights on the front of the house, one either side of the garage door, they work well except that they are too sensitive and are triggered by passing cars on the road even with the sensitivity control set to minimum.

It is about 6 metres from the wall to the road. The lights are decorative rather than for security purposes and we just want them to operate when someone approaches the house up the driveway.
The pir sensor is fixed within the lamp body so I can't angle it down to reduce sensitivity, just wondered if it is possible to 'mask' the sensor in some way in order to make it less sensitive?

Thanks

Often black tape is used to make them more directional sideways so presume taping off the top (half or more?) might do as you want.

Most PIRs come with instructions about this.

If yours doesnt then, most PIRs have two detection zones long and short range. You need to blank out the long range.
If you look at the PIR you'll see its in two halves. blank out the top one, that should help.

This instruction leaflet will halp your understanding .(probably not for your PIR, but it'll give you an idea)
