i have just bought a pir sensor to attach to my outside wall light, it has blue brown and red attached to the wireing block. :? how do i wire correctly, i don't under stand the brown and red

A PIR is a switch. The brown is the permanent live, the red is the switched live. If you don't know what this means, call an expert. :D

If you actually bought the pir sensor then it will have instructions detailing the wiring and terminals of the device.

Are there any markings inside the cover or against the terminal block, i.e. L N E Ls?

Not necessarily. I have installed such gear before with brown as Ls and Red as L.
