I have a 2 gang on/off switch in the house that is controlling a lantern on the drive on one switch & a porch light on the other switch.
I have now removed the lantern & replaced it with a lantern with pir built in.
Now one switch inside needs to be left in the on position to supply a feed to the lantern/pir.

My question is,can i remove the 2 gang switch inside for a 1 gang switch and join the wires that were removed from the second switch & just join together in a choc box and leave in the back box.
This then will only show the onn/off switch for the porch light.

Please take a look at my photo.

Why? You may find a need to override the pir and you cannot do that with no switch. As well as maintainance requirements.

Just above this switch is the fuse box.
Because there is 2 switches on the same face plate it will be switched off by mistake all the time.

Or is there such a switch which has the 2 connections for all the wires on the rear but only one on / off switch on the front ?

1 gang switch - lantern wire (B) - connect to live connection at switch(D)

or change 2gang 2way switch for 2gang with 1 keyswitch+1way switch available in grid or module setup.

    Is this then correct.

Wire from A to D throw away.
Then when i wire up 1 gang switch just add B & D in the same connection.

D connection is live supply at switch, which loops to A, remove loop and connect wire B to D.

Can you just confirm bere i make the connection.

The new 1 gang switch i have purchased has the following written on it.

    COMMON & L1

Looking at my photo above of the old switch i need to wire up this new switch as follows.

    Wire B & D to COMMON
    Wire C to L1

    Is this correct.

    C in one end
    B&D in the other

It doesn't matter which way round.

Having done this i have just started to notice that the one switch inside the house when switched off something must happen as the pir light outside switches on ?

You can fix that with a bit of masking tape.
