Pizza oven, perlite vs vermiculite

Hi group, I would love to build a pizza oven in the garden, something like this one I viewed on youtube...

My question is, they specify perlite in the construction, can this be substituted for vermiculite like they use for insulating flue liners?

I would guess that vermiculite, though fireproof is not as strong mechanically. It is only a supposition, or you could put an outer layer of sand/cement to help support the vermiculite?
