hi there
we have just moved into a new house with the garden facing a river, in fact its the estuary into a boat yard so the water does not flow fast, what i would like to do is to plant reeds to make it look like any other part of the river and to keep a sorted geese and grandchildren from falling in the river, but not sure what plants to buy or where from,
hope you can help

If by "reeds" you mean Common Reed Phragmites phragmites, the fact that it's not already growing there suggests the conditions might be unsuitable (too saline perhaps?), and a bank of reeds really isn't going to present any sort of barrier to kids or geese.

A living willow "fedge" might be more effective: https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=588
