We moved into our house just over 5 years ago. One of the first jobs we had done was the kitchen which is at the back of the house and on a solid concrete floor (the rest of the house is on a suspended floor).

The kitchen previously had one wall as brick with heavy paint at one end and the other three were plastered with an artex type finish and again, heavy paint.

We had a plasterer do the whole room walls and ceiling. I think he skimmed the three walls and ceiling and put board and the skim on the brick wall.

As far as I was concerned he did a very good job and seemed very professional, took his time etc.

Now just over four years later i can see a couple of cracks that run from half way up one wall, across the ceiling and half way down the other. They are about a hair width wide but seem very obvious! They don't seem to be straight enough to follow the edge of a board and the diagonal distance across the 3m width room is about a foot (if that makes sense?)

I was concerned that it may be subsidence but cant see any obvious cracks outside (the house is a semi), however we did have a couple if trees pulled out of the garden not long after the plastering was done.

Could it just be the plaster shrinking after a few years or should I try and do some more investigation - if so what?

The first s/topic is very similar to your post, also from Manchester 5 yrs ago.

Thank you

It wasn't me in the old post though even though the paint is a similar colour!
