Plasterboard ceiling / Coving - Problem

We had our living room re-plastered recently and had the ceiling boarded.
As we have coving the plasterers advised that it would be best to lose the top edge of the coving and smooth the coving into the ceiling, they said they had done it before so went along with it.

Our decorator came round yesterday and instantly highlighted it as a problem.
We got him to do the first coat, but as you can see, the edge between the plasterboard and coving is visible and where the plaster has been feathered into the coving is also visible, it really isn't very good.

What solutions are there to this? My decorator has suggested mounting new coving on top of the old, giving us the top edge back and a double thickness bottom edge, is this the best way to go or is there another way to sort this better?

The best way is to remove the coving, repair any damage to wall or ceiling, then fit new coving.

Don't fit the coving before repairing the wall and ceiling - it's never quite as good.
