Hi,
I'm plasterboarding in a house we're renovating for retirement and have been laid up for a week with post herpetic neuralgia (shingles without the blisters, hellish painful!).
My two sons in law have been "helpful" and done some boarding during this time but, without wishing to sound ungrateful, it looks a bit rough. Some gaps between boards of about 4-5mm, some bumped corners and some bits where someone has obviously held the edge awkwardly and crumpled a hand sized bit.
The plasterer, who is to put on a coat of bonding to level any hollows then skim, is away on holiday just now so can't ask him, but I wonder how much of this he can cover up. Will he tape and fill all the joints to start with as a matter of course?. Does this just mean extra prep. work for him?.I really don't fancy taking it all down and re-doing, especially as they seem to have gone a bit mad with the screw gun. :(

If he is bonding out anyway, 4-5 mm gaps it should be okay. But remember he can fill hoolows, but bumps are harder to deal with. Make sure any bumps are not due to something avoidable. , say a cable being trapped, an old screw or nail in the joist , or the boards being butted up too tight.

If paper has come off the boards, or come loose, or corners broken and hanging, thse will need to be repaired first. Best bet is to ask the spread as soon as he is available- don't let him show up without warning.

Thanks for that encouraging info.
The plasterer has had a preliminary look at the job and is coming back to price it up when all the boarding is done, so he will be able to see then what extra prep is needed.
Thanks again.
