plastering ceiling advice

Right then my brother in law came through my ceiling so I have covered the effected area with new plaster board. Im going to have a go at doing it myself! The rest of the ceiling is artext what do I need to do to prepare the ceiling and how do you plaster(just a quick guide ) thanks for any advice.

Knock of high points of artex, pva ceiling then plaster with multi finish.
If you've never plastered before - don't bother, it will look awful.
Try something a little less difficult - like a wall
