Keep the edges wet with a brush and if you can use a straight edge to level off the skim. Leave the skim to go firm but not off, this will stop hollowing when you apply pressure when "polishing" it off.

this is why i wanted that sticky thread about different plasters, a i have found out more about browning in the last 30 seconds than in 17 years of plastering!

Peaps do a sticky thread of the backing plasters, when and when not to use, due to moisture etc...

Ive never used browning, dmplastering never used hardwall, i have. You use neither. Thn a lot of questions will be answered in one thread.

Dean,, you certainly wont need to mix that amount of finishing for, as you said,, "a little job like that". Approx quarter bag per mix? (twice) approximately half a bag of multi?, far too much. It's only a little patch, a square yard or so,, a couple of hawkfuls of finish at the most,,, not even that!!

Yeah I know, I changed my mind mid post. I would mix a quarter of a bag and do it all in the one mix but wouldn't reccomend it so I changed it around a little. Still, better having too much than too little I suppose

I had mold on my wall and I tried to get rid of it by cleaning the wall but it kept coming back. So I had to remove the plaster to see if something was causing the mold to grow back. Nothing was behind the wall as the picture shows. I know now that my windows need to be refitted as they are causing the mold, phew.

Anyway here is the picture:
