plastering onto old wall

ive had soem practice plastering plasterboard a few times, im going to be plastering an old wall tomorow with white emulsion on it

can someone run through the steps any important prep... speak to me as if im clueless! just need to refresh it in my mind

remove any flaky paint, grease, dirt, muck etc...
Might be worth a quick going over with a sander.
Then you need to prep the wall with PVA solution, generally about 4-1 the instruction on the container may offer you a better guide as some differ.
But this must be left over night to dry, then apply another coat of PVA solution, let this go tacky then you can skim.
I normally do a two coat skim and use a roller to apply PVA rather than a brush.
Use Multi finish plaster too, not board finish.

questions you should be asking yourself , is the paint sound? is the wall sound? what kind of paint is it? if its shiny its going to need a key in which case a bonding agent would be best, if not 2 coats of pva 5-1 3-1 let the first dry then apply second coat and apply skim when second coat is tacky
 
the apaint not shinny its abit flaky in places, what other bonding agent would you suggest or stick with pva? is it key the first pva is left over night? :mrgreen:

no thats the sealing coat
give it 2 coats of pva, do like prentice boy says scrape the loose off first you should be able to do it the same day
