Plastering over artex

My staircase is artexed and i want it plastering, now is it possible to plaster over or will it all need to be taken off? Many thanks in advance

As long as the artex is sound, it can be easily plastered over. No need to take it off. Just knock any heavy drips/peaks from the pattern, give it a coat of PVA, then plaster onto it while it's wet or tacky. If the pattern is deep, you are better coating it with Bonding coat plaster first, then multi finish. Are you getting a plasterer in?
 
Yea i'm getting a plasterer in but don't want him to have me eyes out by saying it all needs knocking off. Cheers for the reply

That wont be a problem at all. As i said, as long as it's sound, plastering over Artex is always the preferred option,, all the guys on here would tell you the same. ;)
