i have a c/h system instaled (coal fire) and we are changeing to gaswith a combi boiler i am just swaping the pipes over as the pipeing is already there but the plastic pipes joints have no metal inserts in them we have had no leaks in the system in 4 yrs but wonderd when swaping to gas if the preasure would make the joints leak. (ie the system preasure will be more than the standard coal fire )

sorry if u cant understand :p

Depending on the make of plastic pipe all joints should have either meatl or plastic inserts fitted in the pipe. You must not use plastic within 1M of the boiler.

Whether or not you will get any leaks, well you may be lucky

If it`s only the boiler being changed there wont be any increase in pressure..

EDIT . Too many shandy`s today missed the combi bit, there will be an increase in pressure . So it`s case of it may well leak

Remember combi's are usually sealed higher pressure systems. Depends on how high the F&E tank was. You'll only know when you try.

DIA should have noted that as the coal fire is not heat controllable apart from boiling off it was very bad practice to have used plastic pipework.

In practice most coal fires were rated at rather less than the likely disapation of the fitted rads.
