PLEASE HELP ME... This is driving me mad !!!

Sorry Ben...Completely my fault,

I thought it was a combi boiler as it combined central heating with water heating too.

I think it will be best for me to get someone in and take a look at it.

Ian

In that case, connect the wires from the prorammable roomstat in the wiring centre where the current normal thermostat is, if you are competent with electrics.
If you are not sure, getting a pro in would not be a bad idea. If you combine the job with a service, and a check over of the entire system, you should get better value for money.

But the OP says he has a Tempus ONE, which is a single channel prog. lol

Just to confuse things. 8)

Doesn't make any difference to me, I was born confused. :?
Maybe something to do with not being a real man, but half man, half woman hybrid. It's all my parent's fault; only my dad was a bloke, my mom wasn't.

I think it's better the OP lists all the controls, prog, motorised valve, cylinder stat if there is one, roomstat if there is one etc. Then I may be able to supply a diagram.

Sound to me he has the potential for a Y-plan if he upgrades the prog and adds an extra wire or 2.

Second thoughts, he ought to get someone in.

Thanks you two,

Sorry for wasting your time...I feel a right plum now, I should of just got someone in from the start.

They will probably advise me to rip the whole lot out and start again, if I had my way thats how it would be done, but you know what women & purse strings are like..

Not to worry, if it was working ok before the experiment, it shouldn't cost the world to get it right.

No the old stat packed up, so I thought it should be pretty straight forward to fit a new one, then I found the mass of wiring in the main wiring box by the heating controls.

Are you sure it was the stat that packed up? It does happen, but fairly rare. Chances are it is actually the switch in a valve or something like that. that would also explain why it doesn't work now despite timer and stat both being on.
Best approach is to first identify exactly which system you have i.e. s-plan, y-plan.
Then get an official diagram for it, you can download it from honeywell.
Next you check wire for wire that all is connected as it should be, and mark every wire you have checked.
In most cases, the wires/cables from the discrete parts to the centre are not marked/ wrong colour, and more often than not, it is not wired correctly.
NEVER use cpc (the bare wire in flat cable) or earth wires (yellow/green) for anything else than earth.
The wiring centre should either have a printed board with marked connections, or a 10 or 12 point double terminal strip. It is normal that not all points are used, that is done so every system can use the same set up, and, for instance, point 6 is always the same use.
If you don't have a multimeter, or you don't know exactly how to use it, don't do it yourself; you are working with 230 Volt, copper pipes and water. Not healthy if you do it wrong.

I would feel more comfortable if only I knew for sure what kind of boiler it is!

If its a combi then it will have no other water bits in the property.

If its a c.i. heat only boiler then there will be a hot water cylinder ( tank, big round, square or copper, or red and soft or yellow, green or blue thing ) usually fitten in a place called an "airing cupboard".

A combi has five or six pipes and a heat only has one or three pipes!

The Ferolli Sigma 40-60 is a heat only boiler, not a combi. It needs 230v on the switched live terminal to operate.

Which version of the Digistat +3 do you have, there are four: 22083, 22084, 22087 and 22088?

He said its a Sigma AND a combi !

He also says it has combined heating and hot water!

Obviously one of those statements is incorrect. Trouble is that we dont know for sure which one is incorect.

Tony

Hi again everyone,

Sorry for creating complete confusion, I can confirm that the boiler is a Ferroli Sigma 40/60 standard boiler, which heats the water as well as the radiators.

Connected to the boiler system in the airing cupboard is a Drayton Tempus 1 programmable timer. I used to have a Sunvic TLX thermostat conneted to the wiring box until it stopped doing what it should, so I decided to buy a Drayton Digistat 3+ model 22083 SOFTWARE: V23. I was given advice to connect the new Digistat 3+ direct to the Tempus one using the two wires that connected the Sunvic TLX stat to the wiring box (hope that makes sense) The new digistat 3+ shows the temperature and works as though it is calling for heat, when I manually up the room temp requirements, the flame appears in the screen, but the radiators dont heat up.

I will add some pictures in my next post

Thanks

Ian
