Hi
So every time I try to connect up a kitchen sink waste I seem to stumble. As in the photo I have the plastic nut then the plastic tapered washer then the rubber - this is correct or not?

I then struggle to push and screw (oohh err misses) the pipe in as it always feels the threads aren't connected properly. Please help as I feel now I've asked the question I can cement the correct method in my brain

Nope, that doesn't even look like the end of the trap that would actually fit onto the base of the sink waste.

It should have an end that looks similar to one of these, the first in a McAlpine and the spigot fits into the sink waste and the small seal create the join, the secoind is a typical bespoke trap connection and the flat wahser sits on a flange inside the nut and that then just screw up onto the waste.

There are other but these are the way most look. Can you post a pic of all the bits of the trap setup.

The narrow end of the tapered seal normally goes into the fitting. You've probably got it the wrong way round. What are you trying to screw it up to?

You and I know what a sink waste is but the OP could be referring to any part of the setup. The part in the pic obviously doesn't connect direct to the waste so we need to see what its connecting to.

Sorry so the pic shows all the bits I have. I'm not going to use the bottle trap as I have a trap already just trying to get from the sink down to the trap with the bits I have. Failing that I'll chuck them in the bin and grab a pre made set from Screwfix

And I know that the instructions are in the picture but it's the size of a postage stamp and totally pointless

Ok the bit that would connect to the waste in the sink would be the top piece using one of the washers at the bottom but you may not be able to use this setup to connect to the existing trap.

Is it a 1 1/2 bowl sink? Do away with the current trap and then just get a Mcalpine sink waste kit McAlpine sink kit, it will probably be easier in the long run.

I was thinking exactly that  the stuff you get with these sinks is a bit mickey mouse if you ask me

And that it was I did :D although I had to use a couple of the other bits to get it working properly but she's in and not leaking - onto the next job!
