I need to replace the face plate on a two gang plug socket. I accidently damaged the original socket moving some furniture. There are four cables coming out of the wall. Each cable has three wires (one earth, one live and one neutral).

The original face plate had two terminals for the earth, two for the live, and two for the neutral wires. Trouble is I have had no success in finding a similar replacement in the local superstores. Could anyone tell me where I can get hold of a face plate with the same kind of twin terminals for each of the live, neutral and earth terminals??
Is there a particular name for them??

I can see that two terminals were necessary in order to hold the wires securely, as the standard faceplates only have one terminal for the live and one for the neutral (although, many have twin earths). Consequently the wires tend to slip out of the terminals when pushing the face plate back on to the back plate.

Would be grateful for your comments

i think ashley have twin terminals?
.
sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if you have four twin and earths coming out of the wall then you have bigger problems mate

i dont like the fact they come out.
i have only heard of sockets with dual earth, that all.
was there any brand names, anything to go by?
try a socket with larger terminals (ie brands like MK or crabtree)

I think RPP sockets have the double terminals.

An MK logic+ socket front will accomodate 4no. 2.5mm² conductors

Thanks for the replies. Will follow up the leads. Perhaps it would have been more accurate for me to have said that there are three terminals but each terminal has two screws that makes it easy to secure the wires.

RF is right,

RPP (M2 range) do have two terminals for each conductor, they are available in CEF - not the favourite wholesalers for many, but I quite like this range..

Hi Again

Just checked the RPP (M2 Range) and the dual terminals are similar to the ones on the face-plate that I am replacing. I cannot find anywhere to get them online but there is a branch of City Electrical Factors about ten miles from me. Do they sell to the public or are they for trade only??

im almost 100% sure mate that they are for anyone althought when i have been in there its been on accound but im sure they will let you do it for anyone, ring and ask is all i can say hope it helps

CEF will sell to anyone over the counter, I don't have an account or anything with CEF and I can just go into our local CEF and buy over the counter cash sale.

Thanks for reply Marcam. I will ring up tomorrow morning and hopefully get this item at long last.

Many thanks to all for your help. I got the socket today from CEF, for less than a fiver. It is an RPP (M2). Twin terminals for each conductor, as on the one that I am replacing. Thanks
