Hi,

I want to fit a toilet into my loft space.

I'm trying to decide how to route the soil pipe.

I think have two options and I want to avoid using a macerator.

I can run the pipe into a 1st floor bedroom, out through the wall and T into the external soil stack. Or I can run the pipe into the external soil stack from the roof space. This would mean a downpipe emerging from the soffit to connect with it.

Is either method acceptable?

Regards,

Jon.

Both sound sort of OK, you need to extend the vent to terminate above the level of the new W/C in either case. Aesthetically, doing the run externally might be better if possible

You will of course require Building Regs approval ;)

What is the process?

Jon

Both these could apply in your case, depending on what else your using the loft for;
http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/england/public/buildingwork/projects/workcommonloftconversion/

http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/en...s/workcommonkitchenbath/workmorebregskitbath/

These are the Regs;
http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/england/public/buildingwork/responsibilities/workrespbr/

This is the form:
http://www.cncbuildingcontrol.gov.uk/cms/assets/CNC_BN_v27_01_10.pdf

You need to complete the form, pay the fee &, of course, either you or your builder need to understand what’s required to comply & ensure the necessary inspections &, in some cases tests, are carried out. You will almost certainly be asked for a certificate of compliance when you come to sell.

Hi,

Thanks, I don't think I'll need planning. Its a nearly new house that was built with bedrooms in the loft space.

Some of the houses have a toilet upstairs already, the builder didn't bother with ours.

At no time have I mentioned that you need Planning Permission, you definitely & categorically do not; but the fact it's a new house has nothing to do with it as does the fact that some of the houses built nearby already have a bog upstairs & the builder "forgot" to install yours! None of the links I posted relate specifically to planning permission, it' s just confusing (for some ) that they happen to share the same Government website as Building Regulations; that's why I posted several links!

It's Building Regulations you have to comply with which are totally separate & have nothing whatsoever to do with Planning Permission; you definitely DO need Building Regulations approval to install a new loo or to use your loft as a habitable space for that matter.
