Hi all

I am intending to install some 10mm clear twin wall polycarbonate for a pitched lean to pergola

I understand they ideally should be fitted so the flutes run vertically, i wish to install the polycarbonate horizontally so i can have 1 long sheet and secure them down with 4 fixing buttons per rafter total of 4 rafters, dimensions are 1524x4724mm

However from researching on the Internet from what i have gathered if i install the polycarbonate horizontally, there is a possibility of dirt, insects, water ingress, moisture/condensation etc to build up...

Would foil tape or breather tape be suitable to prevent the above from occurring?

Is there anything i could do? or anything else you could suggest of?

Cheers

While tape will help, moisture and mess will inevitably end up inside, and it will look dreadful.
However that is a minor concern compared to the fact that a 5m long section of polycarbonate will expand/contract considerably, and therefore rip the fixings out.

That of course assumes that there is no wind where you live, since a gentle breeze will remove the roof completely, given that you are intending to only use 4 fixings and 4 rafters - 16 small screws/pins will NOT secure a piece of polycarbonate of that size.
Your dimensions also indicate each 'panel' of the roof would be 1.5x1.5m, which is far too big to support polycarbonate (or anything else) properly.

Suggestions - this structure needs to be totally redesigned.
