'Popping' screws

Another cause can be the use of damp timber for the studding; timber dries out, shrinks & pops the plaster. If the wall itself is in an environment subject to a wider variation in seasonal ambient moisture, this will cause the timber studs to expand & contract.

Or simply not enough screws/screws not fitted correctly
