Anyone got one? Any good/how quiet are they nowdays?
We had one about 15 years ago in the villa and it was a toss up at night between sweating to death or being kept awake by the noise. We soon changed it for a proper set up with the outside units etc. Any recommendations, its only for the bedroom? May have missed the boat though as everywhere seems sold out of the good ones. My main consideration above anything else is the noise.

Have you thought about or tried one of the oscilating tower fans. They are pretty quiet and we never had a problem sleeping with them.

Yeah, we have a Dyson tower fan but our bedroom is in full sun from midday and it’s just getting too hot lately. Tried shutting the blinds and the curtains but it still heats up.

We rely on an old fashioned large fan running slowly at night aimed at the ceiling. Works for us in the hot south

I brought a portable one about 4 years ago. Yes its too noisy to sleep with but I have it in the bedroom and use it to pre cool the room which it does very well so that its much easier to get to sleep.
I made a board that slots in place of an open window, it has a hole to attach the ducting and then also keep the bedroom door shut.

I use water cooled fan , no ac but blows cooler air at you and is fairly quiet. Timer is set for 3-4 hours as don’t need it running all night .

I’ve a wall mounted fan pointed at bed , basic but useful when hot

Ventilation can presumably play a role in cooling at night ? I’ve a small opening on the windows in summer

Oscillating tower fans we've found are really good, but it's all dependent on a through draft. Ideally you want it drawing in air from the outside, not just blowing warm air around. You can also try freezing as many water bottles as you can fit in your freezer, and hanging them in front of the fan. They will melt, but might provide enough cool air until you go to sleep.

I think these A/C units are quire pricey when you compare them to a cheap fridge. It would be interesting to see how a fridge works as an A/C if you drill a hole in in and have some pipe coming out

If the room is really hot before I put it on open all the windows in other bedroom and the air con unit has a just fan option which is quite powerful so I use that and push out a lot of the hot air at night.
