Interesting thing about the Monkees is that it was said none of them could play an instrument, in fact, they all could and expected to play on the programme. They were amatures except for Mike Nesmith who was a decent 'country' singer and musician. The song Rio, which Mike wrote although not a huge hit in America was a global hit. He went on to produce a 'video show' of several songs, Rio was one of the earliest popular videos, and the birth of a channel called MTV.
