Is jazz allowed. This whole Woody Allen album is amazing. Fantastic arrangements. This is probably my favourite:

this reminds me of joe jackson, "is she really going out with him"
I saw Joe Jackson a couple of times, when he had those first hits, but then he started doing his Jump Jive stuff, and I went off him!

And then he came back a couple of years later with this, one of the best sounds of the early 80s...

Watched that Take that documentary on Netflix the other night, quite interesting.....Gary Barlow wrote this song when he was 15...OMG imagine your 15 year old son writing this, thats serious talent...

I have to draw the line at Take That, sorry!

Being a student of rock I see many patterns, templates and repetitions. A couple of great films in the 1970s, 'That'll Be The Day' and 'Stardust' plot the rise and fall of a fictitious pop star - Jim McClaine, played by David Essex. He has phenomenal early successes, loads of money and girls etc, but it all goes to his head and he gets on drugs and his career goes quiet for a while, during which all his girl fans feel sorry for him. His managers plan a big televised comeback for him, which is a rousing pseudo-religious song, with a huge choir, with Jim as messiah dressed all in virginal white. Years later when I saw Take Take do a big televised comeback with the group doing a rousing pseudo-religious song, with a huge choir and them as messiahs in white, I saw a pattern. Their managers will have known 'That'll Be The Day' and 'Stardust'.

Coincidences...in a charity shop today a girl next to me was looking through some old singles, and she picked out and bought Joe Jackson's 'Different for Girls'... and tonight Highwayman plays it!

Then...

I bring up the David Essex film 'Stardust', and after mentioning it I see that HWM had posted 'Gonna Make You A Star', which was Essex's hit around the time of the film.

What great minds!

Absolutely love this version, just a group of top notch musicians and singers recording music. Nobody cares what they look like as they will never be pop stars. Simply fantastic sounds all coming together. These would go far if they got me in on that 12 string. With my talent and looks they would go far. FACT
