Hello,

Got a Potterton Suprima non condensing installed in 3 bed small semi in 1999. There are 7 rads and a small HW cylinder in the airing cupboard along with the pump and 3 position valve and wiring centre. It is a y plan setup according to the gas engineer who services it every year. The system seems to run well and has never caused us any problems.

My question is as follows: occasionally (probably once a year at most) the boiler attempts to light 3 times and needs resetting. After reset it always fires and all is fine. This happens so infrequently that our engineer could not explain why.

Out of curiosity more than anything I wondered if anyone could suggest why this happens. It is not getting any worse but I wondered if it could be due to weather conditions outside?

It's a Suprima..count yourself lucky it does it once a year..these models have a very troubled history.

Ok thanks. To be honest it has only ever had a new siemans (I think) PCB and the seperate British gas pump went and was replaced with a new Grundfoss one. It has given us very few problems. Any ideas what would cause this though even just once ayear?

can be lots of things, you really need to be in front of the boiler when it does it to be sure what it is, if it only does it in extremely cold conditions it could be the meter regulator freezing up or sticking, it could be the boilers gas valve sticking it could be ionisation probe as said unless you are there when it does it its difficult to guess

Thanks, the post is out of curiosity really. This causes us no issues at all. Just interested as to why it happens!
