After water heated and switched off, pump remains running but doesnt heat water. This morning kept running for longer than usual and I had to reset boiler to turn the pump off (as I had to get to work) normally it runs for say a few minutes but today was about 10! Any ideas?

Mine sometimes runs for 10mins plus, as long as it goes off, Im happy

Tanyalouise the pump stays on to dissipate excess heat, but 10 minutes is getting long, and there's a Suprima failure mode where the pump stays on forever. Keep an eye on it.

YOU would be, because you don't understand the significance of the poster's boiler not being a combi, unlike yours.
You may know what boiler I have, but how do you know what boiler the poster has?.

Dear ChrisR,

Our system heats both the heating and hot water is this not a combi? I have no knowledge of this sort of stuff. Also what is failure mode?

TL - No it isn't a combi, it's a conventional (better!) system.

By "failure mode" I just mean one of the ways it can fail. If the boiler water keeps pumping through the system while the boiler's off and cold, it can cool the hot water cylinder, or rads, down.

Chris, lets go back to the start (no need to through a 6  ).
I have a Potty Suprima, as the post started, all I said was mine runs on & turns off.
So I am at a bit of a lost as to your attitude.
All I tried to do was advise Tanyalouise, that I didnt think it was a problem.

So if I am understanding you. I also have a problem.
Yes its a bit annoying having the pump running on (as the boiler is in the loft) but reading about PCB on this boiler I think I am lucky.
ps Boiler is 3 years old & has always done this, & the instructions tell me it will.

Sorry Diyisfun, my fault  , confused you with another questioner, who has a rather high opinion of his abilities, has a combi, and has got himself into trouble by not reading instructions.
His screen name is similar.

I haven't sat and timed a suprima overrun recently, but since I was intemperate with you I have just checked with the manufacturer - the overrun is supposed to be 5 minutes. It's done by timing, and not by measuring the temperature (which would be better).
But it isn't adjustable.

So, keep watching it from time to time, but in view of the cost of a replacement board, you'll have to live with it. That can be the silver lining when the board eventually does fail...

It would be worth putting insulation on the primary pipes, which should be there already but won't be :)

Ta, all my pipes are lagged.
I have Corgi mates.
I even went off skiing & left the builders & plumbers to it.

The pump overrun on a Suprima is 20 minutes

then what they told you is wrong

If its really a fixed time for the over run that the time constant will depend on the remaining capacitance of an electrolytic presumably, which may have dried out.

Or is it set digitally in the processor chip?

Tony

There you go, he was adamant it shouldn't be as long as ten minutes!

If an electrolytic had dried up, the time would have got shorter

mind you you have to be careful recalibrating the selubricator as if you get it wrong you throw out the giggly pin alignment

and then there will be hell to pay

;)

its late and i have one too many ales
