Hello! I have read a fair amount about how to power flush a system. Some say to run the system with the power flusher for a few hours with all the radiators open and the boiler running, i.e. hot.

Then they say to close all but one radiator off, run it for a while, reverse the flow, tap the radiator to dislodge any sludge. Got that, understood.

Then they say to flush the water out with clean water. Repeat for each radiator individually closing off the previous radiator. Now. My question is this.... does adding cold water to the process to flush out the dirty suspended sludge run the risk of cracking the boiler? The process does not mention turning off the boiler and allowing to cool before flushing each individual radiator.

System is open vented, Ideal Mexico boiler.

Thanks,
Jim

I don't know whether you mean you would through the boiler, but if you did, don't! That would push clag from the system into the heat exchanger. Then your question doesn't arise.
