I mean call me over cautious but is putting a power point under a sink unit a totally stupid idea?

We've just had a new kitchen installed where I work. I looked under the sink unit (which incidentally has already blocked and leaked once already) and I saw that there is a double socket positioned under the sink which has the water heater plugged into it  .

I mentioned it to my supervisor who fobbed me off and said "don't worry Amanda it's perfectly safe"

Should I alert someone with more expertise, or not rock the boat?

What happens if a pipe bursts in the ceiling above a socket in your lounge?

It gets wet.

It is not designed for this, but plumbing is not designed to leak either.

Worst case is socket gets very wet. If it starts shorting out the OCPD will operate and disconnect it from the supply, if it doesn't, the socket dries out.

There's no regulation which says it shouldn't be sited there, and although I see your POV sockets are quite commonplace under sinks.

Oh, right, so I am being overcautious :?

I just assumed having sockets so close to a sink was a no no.

So what's the fuss about sockets in bathrooms then?

And you are naked.

Not you personally, Amanda, I mean "one"...

Oh, what have I started?.........

Thanks for the answers! At least I know now that no-one is likely to be electrocuted!

You could argue that a socket located in a sink cupboard should be of suitable IP rating (IPX4) considering most under sink areas will be subjected to a leak at one time or another.
All accessories should be suitable for their location.

Wouldn't "Proximity of non-electrical services and other influences" on Schedule Of Items Inspected be referring to situations like this?

Would you be happy with a socket located directly underneath a boiler?
