How did you power it up and how long was it powered down for ? Try disconnecting the internal 12V backup battery and then powering up with mains, then reconnect the battery.

Only powered off about 2 mins put batt on first (starts to pleep ) press any buttons on keypad stops pleep tryed both batt first still same or power first still same

Okay, the ***'s mean that there's no communication on the bus between the master (panel cpu) and slave (keypad). This can be caused by a faulty panel, faulty keypad/slave device or bad wiring between the devices. Do you have multiple devices on the A/B RS485 bus going to the keypad, or just the panel and keypad ?

If all was working prior to this, ensure that the power is off for a 20 seconds or so, then power up via mains. If this doesn't work and you haven't touched the wiring or devices since powering down, then something has gone faulty.

Only have keypad and panel on bus powered off for about 5 mins powered back up and still same however get this for random powered off took out batt fuse powered back up and keypad works ?? Put batt fuse back in everything seems ok ?????

I've seen a couple of old panels do this. Probably a dodgy cap on the CPU reset circuit - eventually you get lucky on power up. Since this circuit is only used at power on, then the system will run fine when it's up.

Out of curiosity, which firmware level does it have ? Display->System.
