I have always been able to open .pps files in email attachments but all of a sudden when I double click the attachment I now get the message come up "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel"
I can right click attachment, save the .pps file to desktop, then open it through Microsoft Power Point.
In the control panel PPS is shown to be active so I am at a loss to understand why the double clicking on the attachment has stopped working?
I have tried to restore the computer using restore function to before problem started but it will not restore to highlighted restore point selected.

Any one any ideas or suggestions please.

I managed to correct by downloading a new Microsoft Powerpoint Viewer file from microsoft and attaching this through Control Panel as per http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ppsopen.htm. Obviously my original file had corrupted itself somehow!

Still cant understand why I cannot restore to a restore point any ideas please

You could've right click on the file in explorer select 'open with'. When Open with dialogue opens select the program you want to open with - in your case Power Point from the list. If not available browse for it. Make sure you check 'Always use the selected....'

For your second problem it would seem your restore options are probably turned off and 'slimmed' down.

Right click on 'My Computer', click on Properties and click on the tab 'System Restore' and check your options, particularly under settings.

Fair enough, just a case of re making the file association then?
